On September 10–12, Baku will once again become the center of the global water agenda. The 2nd International Water Management Exhibition and Conference – Baku Water Week brings the latest technologies and innovative solutions in the field of water management to Azerbaijan, gathering government agencies, international companies, experts, and professional visitors at the Baku Expo Center.

The depletion of global water resources and the impact of climate change are among the greatest challenges facing humanity. For Azerbaijan as well, water security is a priority direction. Projects implemented by the state aim to ensure sustainable development in this field.

In recent years, within the framework of urgent measures determined by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, a number of major projects have been carried out in the country: modernization of irrigation systems, construction of new reservoirs, restoration of irrigation networks, application of desalination technologies, including pilot projects on desalination of the Caspian Sea water.

It is in this context that Baku Water Week brings new solutions, equipment, and advanced approaches to the country, encouraging the application of technological innovations and sustainable management in the water sector. The Baku Water Week, which holds strategic importance for Azerbaijan and the region, creates opportunities for open dialogue and practical cooperation in the field of water management and, this year as well, is preparing to provide tangible benefits and real opportunities for both local and foreign participants.

Baku Water Week is organized with the support of Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency. Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, Zaur Mikayilov, speaking about Baku Water Week, expressed his hope that this event would create opportunities for new prospects and foster mutual cooperation:

"I believe that Baku Water Week will provide not only government bodies but also the private sector and professionals with the opportunity to find innovative methods of solving problems based on new ideas. Alongside Azerbaijan, about 70 companies and delegations from Austria, Belarus, Germany, Hungary, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and the United States of America participate in Baku Water Week.

The first of Baku Water Week features presentations “Complete Water Treatment Solutions”, “Achievement of the Guaranteed Results through Comprehensive Engineering of Water Supply and Wastewater Facilities”, case session “Global Climate Change: Management of Drought Risks in Azerbaijan”, as well as the expert sessions “Current State of the Caspian Sea: Problems and Solutions” and Sustainable Wastewater Management - Towards the Goals of COP29.

2nd International Conference for Water Management - Water for Tomorrow: From Scarcity to Strategy

On the second day of “Baku Water Week 2025” – 11 September – the 2nd International Conference for Water Management, organised by Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, will be held. The conference, which will take place at the Baku Expo Centre, will once again present an extensive and diverse programme with the participation of representatives of relevant state institutions, international organisations, private sector leaders, as well as leading local and international experts in the field. More than 40 speakers from nearly 10 countries are expected to address the conference.

The programme will include a plenary session titled “Leadership in Water Governance: Regional and Global Perspectives”, as well as panel discussions on “Water Strategies: Infrastructure and Digitalisation”, “Innovative Approaches to Alternative Water Resources Management”, “Water Diplomacy: Cooperation Beyond Borders” and “Water Sustainability Through Science and Innovations”.

In addition, the conference will feature an award ceremony for the winning team of the “Hackathon” competition.

The 6th Caspian Water Innovation Forum

On 12 September, the third day of “Baku Water Week”, the 6th Caspian Water Innovation Forum will be held, organised by AquaLink Azerbaijan, the Gold Sponsor of the event. This once again confirms that Baku Water Week has become a key platform in the region for meetings, cooperation, innovation, and international dialogue in the water sector.

The forum, to be held under the slogan “Adding Value to Water”, will address crucial issues in the field. Four main panel discussions are scheduled as part of the forum: “Advantages of Implementing Advanced Water Technologies”, “Environmental Protection Technologies and Practices”, “Recycling Technologies and Their Importance”, and “Application of Innovative Technologies in Water Management”. In addition to representatives of the State Water Resources Agency, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Economy, the forum will also welcome international companies from more than 10 countries, as well as leading academic and educational institutions of Azerbaijan.

Alongside this, B2B and B2G meetings aimed at strengthening cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, and innovative start-ups will also take place within the framework of Baku Water Week. These meetings will provide a real platform for local and international companies, as well as state institutions, to discuss opportunities for collaboration.

During the three days of Baku Water Week, the foyer of the Baku Expo Centre features installations of the Zabukhchay Reservoir – the first reservoir of Liberated Karabakh, the Gate Valve waterwheel, Hovsan Aeration Station, Baku Water Supply, Oghuz-Qabala Water Supply System, as well as installation on the history of water. In addition, members of the “Ümid var” Inclusive Society showcase their artworks under the theme “Baku Water Week 2025 Through the Brush of the Differents” in Pavilion No. 1.
